Tasked with designing and making a unit for a tv and shelves in two alcoves in a living room. The idea was to create something which had a traditional and rustic feel to it. The shelves were thick ash boards which I left rough sawn so that you had the history of them and so that the character of the wood and the stripped back approach would help to create an effortless and older look. The shelves were then finished with a wax to protect them and to stop the grain slowly greying.

I also selected to use ash so that there would be a continuous feel running throughout the room. The unit was later painted using a white chalk paint and distressed to create a look which was in keeping with the rest of the house.

This project I learnt so much and got to have fun doing new things such as making shaker style doors for the first time and having a unit which is built completely in was a nice change of pace.
