Riddles

Riddles Bar Sign

Hidden away down the side streets of Altrincham, just near to the rejuvenated market place, is the bar Riddles. Owned by Del Lowe and Emma Rostaing the speakeasy style bar set about carving a name for itself by providing great drinks in a friendly and unique environment.

As a designer it is always good to be able to go and relax somewhere which can inspire, it can be found in a variety of different places, Riddles is one of those. The 1920's prohibition theme of the bar embodies all parts of Riddles from the drinks, the dress code of the staff and the music, it is this 'complete style' which sets it apart and something to aspire to when it comes to designing.

For the bars one year anniversary of it opening they wanted a new sign to be desingned. It had to continue the great theme which went on inside the bar whilst also standing out on the street as a unique focal point. The sign itself was manufactured out of solid oak and the Riddles logo was laser etched onto the surface.

The metal frame was designed to be decorative whilst also incorporating the question mark and the curls of the logo, working with Iron By Design we were able to get the framework made to the specifications. This project used a wide range of different techniques and demanded working with different people to come up with something which is truly unique.

So if you are in Altrincham go onto Greenwood Street just by the market and have a look at the sign. Whilst you are there you might as well nip in and have a drink in the best bar in Altrincham, rumour has it that they do the best Old Fashioneds
