Knife Block

Magnetic Knife Block (Concept)

The knife block was designed in 2014. It was designed as part of the 'Fine Dining' range which utilised natural materials to create both functional and desirable products. The knife block was designed with the idea of dyslexia in mind; in terms of the kitchen dyslexics tend to need to be able to see everything that they need to use. As knives are a key part of the preparation of food Peter decided to try to design a modern knife block which enables the user to easily see the knife that they want to use and makes it easy to access.

The knife block utilises magnets to allow the knives to stick to the block, by doing this it adds an element of fun and mystery in the product, as when it is not in use it looks mysterious but once you know the purpose the user tends to enjoy slapping knives onto the block. Originally manufactured out of maple, due to its solid properties and being suitable to be used with food, Peter wants to give a choice of materials such as Walnut, Beech and Oak if desired. To relate it to the chopping board it utilises a contrasting disk which enables users to see that they are a set.

Peter intends to include comics on the body of the knife block in the future due to his love of them, with his thinking that fans would enjoy practical items which tell stories of their favourite superhero. He also feels that images such as wedding photos could be tailored to fit creating a product which is important to the user if you are interested in the knife block and any potential images you would want on it, then don't hesitate to get in touch.
