Upcycled Racks

Upcycled Wine and Whisky Racks

Pallets are one of the main things that are constantly put to waste and I looked at different ways that I could reuse them. I had seen some great images online of wine racks made from pallets, so to start to get the idea I first made a wine rack for a friend who had just moved house. He wanted it to match the colour scheme in his kitchen, so I selected a stain which would match, I slightly sanded the corners and roughed it up so that it would have the distressed look which would match the pallet which had been weathered and worn, once it was added to the room it became a feature and really grabbed the attention of people

Later I was out having a drink one evening, I thought not everyone drinks wine. So why not make a rack where whiskey and bourbon enthusiasts could put their bottles so that they are accesible but also so that they can display to visitors what they like. This had the benefit that it would help to keep cupboards tidy, so I focused on making a rack to store bottles and "old fashioned" glasses. For this one I decided to use a dark walnut stain due to the decor of the bar which had inspired me.

I have continued making different things and will be soon showing pictures and the story of a table. I have since remade the whiskey rack out of solid oak and intend to try making the wine rack out of an old wine barrel!
